Networking Requirements

Minimum Hardware & OS requirements (Please Download Full Instructional Document)

  • Windows™ Server 2000 or above with OS hardware specs
  • Terminal Server activated with appropriate CALs
  • Remote Access available to LAN/WAN users with appropriate CALs, PCs & OS
  • Citrix Server (Optional)
  • VPN, Firewall and security for HIPAA & FERPA requirements

Installation of Practicum Admin for Terminal Services

  1. Practicum Administration program for Windows™ may be obtained by downloading the trial version.
  2. Activation of the program is done via email.
  3. Practicum Administration must be loaded using ADD/REMOVE programs in the CONTROL PANEL of the Server OS.
  4. After loading the application it is required that you open the program, go to HELP and check for updates.  This assumes that the server has Internet Access.
  5. It is always appropriate to check the application through REMOTE ACCESS, using the built in Administrator account that ships with Terminal Services.

Setup Users for Terminal Services

  1. There are two licensing considerations for networking Practicum Administration.
    1. How many will attach to the Server?  Microsoft has changed the way it licenses Term Serve with Server 2006.  If you have Server 2000 licensing is not the same.  You will need to deal with Microsoft to make sure you are current on CALs.
    2. Practicum Administration also has seats.  Seats are simultaneous connections to the application.  If you purchased 5 seats and you have six licensed users on Terminal Server, when number six tries to use Practicum Administration they will get an error message. Remember, the application is simultaneous connections.
  2. It is recommended that you use the remote access permissions for your users that login to Terminal Servers.  You may wish to give them the application only on their desktop or there is a option to just run the application directly to the remote computer.
  3. Printing will be done in the OS, however most end users will want to print to their own local printer which is the default setup for remote access.
